Vinyls in Singapore

A new type of vinyl flooring system that was introduced into Singapore less than a decade ago; Vinyl (Click System) are becoming increasingly popular in recent years.

During the 80’s, the overlay thin vinyl sheet material was popular due to its relative ease of maintenance and they are also inexpensive compared to other flooring materials. The Vinyl Floor (Click System) is a new and improved version that is not only easier to install, it is more durable and still remains an inexpensive and attractive flooring option.

Advantages

The advantages of using Vinyl Flooring are,

  1. Wide Variety of Choices. Vinyl flooring is available in many different finishes and textures that resemble other materials such as timber and stone tiles. In fact, most people will not be able to tell the difference without close observation!
  2. Resistant to Indentation. Vinyl floors are designed to be flexible, but yet tough enough to resist indentation from most objects.
  3. Resistant to Scratch and Cigarette Burn. Vinyl has a wear layer that increases its resistance against marks caused by scratches and cigarettes.
  4. Resistant to Moisture, Fungi and Insects. Compared with Laminate Flooring (Paper Based) and natural timber strips, Vinyl Floors is able to avoid problems caused by moisture, fungi and insect attacks which often results in serious damages that requires total replacement of the damaged flooring.
  5. Easy to Install and Remove. Timber floors can be very difficult to dismantle while it is a lot easier and faster to remove vinyl flooring as they can be overlaid on existing finishes without the need for adhesives or nails. A ruler and penknife are all that are needed to install vinyl flooring.
  6. Safe for Children and Elderly. Vinyl are slip resistant and even in the unfortunate event of a fall, Vinyl helps to reduce the impact of the fall compared to solid surfaces like ceramic tiles, stone finishes etc.
  7. VOC-Free. Quality Vinyl Floors are VOC-free. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) are harmful fumes that can cause breathing problems for people with respiratory issues and other health problems. This is why it is important to use flooring that has obtained FloorScore certification.
  8. Adapts Well to Floor Contour. Vinyl is flexible which enables it to adapt to the floor contour better. This minimizes the forming of unsightly stress lines or the formation of cracks over a period of time when installed on uneven surfaces.
  9. Dimensionally Stable. Do not expand, shrink excessively or warp easily.
  10. Easy to Maintain. Vinyl Flooring is ideal for families as they can be made to resemble wood and stone finishes but yet require lesser maintenance than natural materials. Dry-mopping from time to time is all that is required to keep it looking nice and clean.

Ideal Place of Use

Vinyl Floorings are recommended for use in:

  1. Residential interiors, e.g. living room, dining area and bedrooms.
  2. Commercial interiors, e.g. cafes, retail shops and offices.
  3. Not suitable for areas which require heavy washing and constant contact with water.

Taking Care of Vinyl Floors

  1. Do NOT place hot objects or appliance directly on the flooring.
  2. Do regular cleaning by vacuuming, sweeping or mopping to remove dirt and grit.
  3. Do wipe up spills and use soft damp cloth to remove stains.
  4. Do add protective feet on your heavy furniture or appliances to minimize the possibilities of leaving unsightly indentations or damage to the flooring.
  5. Do NOT  use strong cleaning chemicals or bleach when you are cleaning the floor.
